Rage starts strong with an effective pastoral setup that transforms into genuine horror when the son is poisoned. The middle sections maintain tension through the cover-up, but reviewers found the violent climax and ending disappointing despite Scott's committed performance. Most critics appreciated the political themes and Scott's direction of actors but felt the film ultimately fell short of its promising setup.
