Troy
In year 1250 B.C. during the late Bronze age, two emerging nations begin to clash. Paris, the Trojan prince, convinces Helen, Queen of Sparta, to leave her husband Menelaus, and sail with him back to Troy. After Menelaus finds out that his wife was taken by the Trojans, he asks his brother Agamemnon to help him get her back. Agamemnon sees this as an opportunity for power. They set off with 1,000 ships holding 50,000 Greeks to Troy.
Critics Sentiment
Achilles and Hector duel outside the walls of Troy
Prince Paris begins affair with Helen and smuggles her away
The film jumps from its lowest point during Paris and Helen's romance to spectacular battle sequences that reviewers consistently praised.
Troy delivers a mixed but ultimately satisfying epic experience, with reviewers consistently praising the spectacular battle sequences and standout performances by Eric Bana and Peter O'Toole while criticizing some wooden acting and story deviations. The film peaks with the legendary Achilles-Hector duel, which multiple reviewers called the best choreographed fight scene in cinema history. Despite some pacing issues and mixed performances, the film succeeds as grand entertainment with impressive production values.
