Dark Phoenix
The X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe when one of their own, Jean Grey, starts to spiral out of control. During a rescue mission in outer space, Jean is nearly killed when she's hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. The X-Men must now band together to save her soul and battle aliens that want to use Grey's new abilities to rule the galaxy.
Critics Sentiment
X-Men rescue astronauts from damaged Space Shuttle Endeavour
Jean accidentally kills Raven during telekinetic episode with X-Men
The film drops sharply from the praised space rescue sequence to the widely criticized death of Mystique, falling 3.4 points as reviewers found the emotional beats increasingly hollow.
Dark Phoenix starts with competent action and spectacle but quickly deteriorates as reviewers found the performances flat, dialogue weak, and character development rushed. The film never recovers from its middle section's poor execution, ending on a merely adequate note that left audiences feeling unsatisfied with the conclusion of the X-Men saga.
