Belle, Terrence and Marissa watch The Amityville Horror movie
Joan reveals she moved family to harness demonic energy
The film drops significantly when Joan's illogical motivation is revealed, falling from the effective meta-horror moment to nonsensical character behavior.
The film starts with modest promise through its atmospheric setup and clever meta-approach but steadily declines due to predictable plotting and poor character development. Critics consistently noted the wasted potential of using the actual Amityville house, hampered by a neutered PG-13 rating and implausible story beats. The overall reception reflects a mediocre horror entry that fails to capitalize on its intriguing premise.
