His Girl Friday
Walter Burns is an irresistibly conniving newspaper publisher desperate to woo back his paper’s star reporter, who also happens to be his estranged wife. She’s threatening to quit and settle down with a new beau, but, as Walter knows, she has a weakness: she can’t resist a juicy scoop.
Review Sentiment
Walter proposes again and Hildy accepts their shared future
Earl Williams escapes from jail during execution preparations
The film recovers from its mid-point lull when Williams is hidden in the desk, jumping from 6.2 to 8.9 as the screwball elements reach their peak.
His Girl Friday maintains consistently high sentiment throughout, with reviewers universally praising the rapid-fire dialogue and Grant-Russell chemistry. The film experiences a brief dip in its middle section where some critics found the pace exhausting, but recovers strongly for a beloved climax. The overall arc reflects a comedy that delivers on its promise of breakneck wit while successfully balancing romance and satire.
