Sicario: Day of the Soldado
Agent Matt Graver teams up with operative Alejandro Gillick to prevent Mexican drug cartels from smuggling terrorists across the United States border.
Critics Sentiment
ISIS suicide bombing kills 15 in Kansas City grocery store
Gillick and Isabel disguise as immigrants to cross border
The film drops significantly from the intense Mexican police ambush to the mission abandonment, losing the momentum and cartel war premise that had driven the story.
The film starts strong with an impactful opening and solid action sequences but loses steam in the middle act when it abandons its interesting cartel war premise. While del Toro and Brolin deliver strong performances throughout, the film suffers from a lack of moral compass character like Emily Blunt's role in the original, making it harder for audiences to connect emotionally despite well-executed action scenes.
