The film starts strong with an impactful opening and solid action sequences but loses steam in the middle act when it abandons its interesting cartel war premise. While del Toro and Brolin deliver strong performances throughout, the film suffers from a lack of moral compass character like Emily Blunt's role in the original, making it harder for audiences to connect emotionally despite well-executed action scenes.
