Sibyl
Sibyl, a jaded psychotherapist, returns to her first passion: writing. But her newest patient Margot, a troubled up-and-coming actress, proves to be a source of inspiration that is far too tempting. Fascinated almost to the point of obsession, Sibyl becomes more and more involved in Margot’s tumultuous life, reviving volatile memories that bring her face to face with her past.
Critics Sentiment
Sibyl has an alcohol-fueled emotional breakdown on set
Sibyl crosses ethical lines by recording patient sessions
The film drops significantly when Sibyl's unethical behavior becomes apparent, then recovers somewhat during her acclaimed drunken breakdown performance.
Critics were divided on this complex psychological drama, praising the central performances particularly Virginie Efira and Adèle Exarchopoulos, but finding the multilayered narrative ultimately unsatisfying. While some appreciated the film's ambitious exploration of trauma, deception, and the blurring of fiction and reality, many felt it was overstuffed with ideas that never quite cohered into a compelling whole. The film's oblique style and morally questionable characters left audiences more frustrated than engaged, despite strong technical elements and standout acting moments.
