The film recovers strongly in its final act, jumping from mediocre middle sections around 4.3-5.4 to genuine emotional resonance at 7.1 during the talent show reconciliation.
The film starts weakly with critics finding the setup boring and derivative of the 2011 version. It struggles through much of the middle with poor animation, unfunny jokes, and scattered plotting. However, the brother relationship gradually improves and the ending delivers genuine emotional payoff that most reviewers appreciated.
