The Haunted Mansion
Workaholic Jim Evers and his wife/business partner Sara get a call one night from a mansion owner, Edward Gracey, who wants to sell his house. Once the Evers family arrive at the mansion, a torrential thunderstorm of mysterious origin strands them with the brooding, eccentric Gracey, his mysterious butler, and a variety of residents both seen and unseen.

Jim becomes trapped while children discover Elizabeth's painting
The film jumps from its lowest point during convoluted plot exposition to its highest during the praised graveyard escape sequence.
The Haunted Mansion receives mixed reception, with reviewers consistently praising its production design, visual effects, and Jennifer Tilly's Madame Leota while criticizing the lazy script and Murphy's uninspired performance. The sentiment peaks during the graveyard sequence, which multiple critics called the film's best moment, but remains hampered throughout by predictable plotting and missed comedic opportunities.
