Nick Daley is following in his father's footsteps as night watchman at the American Museum of Natural History, so he knows what happens when the sun goes down. But when the maniacal ruler Kahmunrah escapes, it is up to Nick to save the museum once and for all.

The film drops significantly from the creative painting escape concept to Nick's tedious self-doubt journey on the Nile, falling 2.2 points as reviewers lost patience with the protagonist's whining.
The film starts poorly with beloved characters acting out of character, then builds through decent action sequences before peaking with creative visual concepts like entering the Egyptian painting. However, it never fully recovers from early missteps and maintains a mediocre trajectory through a predictable resolution that reviewers found uninspired compared to the original trilogy.
