In a last-ditch effort to save his career, sports agent JB Bernstein dreams up a wild game plan to find Major League Baseball’s next great pitcher from a pool of cricket players in India. He soon discovers two young men who can throw a fastball but know nothing about the game of baseball. Or America. Million Dollar Arm follows a classic underdog sports trajectory, starting solidly with an intriguing premise and strong India sequences anchored by Alan Arkin's scene-stealing performance. The middle section suffers from pacing issues and cultural comedy missteps, reaching its nadir during the failed Arizona tryout. However, the film recovers strongly through character development and Jon Hamm's arc, culminating in a genuinely rousing finale that had theater audiences cheering and clapping.
