Critics Sentiment
Tom and Huck witness Injun Joe murder Dr Robinson
Huck Finn leaves Hannibal after their friendship breaks down
The film drops significantly from the praised graveyard murder sequence to the sluggish middle act where Huck leaves town, falling from 8.0 to 4.0.
Tom and Huck starts strongly with an atmospheric graveyard murder scene that showcases Eric Schweig's menacing Injun Joe, but suffers from significant pacing problems in the middle act. The film recovers somewhat for its climactic cave confrontation before ending on a predictably satisfactory note, with Jonathan Taylor Thomas's spirited performance and authentic production values unable to fully compensate for tonal inconsistencies and draggy storytelling.
