Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
After a family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Betelgeuse, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her teenage daughter, Astrid, accidentally opens the portal to the Afterlife.
Critics Sentiment
Astrid summons Sandworm that devours Delores and Rory
Jeremy reveals ghost identity and Delores drains souls in Netherworld
The film jumps from its lowest point during the convoluted middle act to its peak during the Sandworm climax, rising 3.1 points as Burton finally unleashes the practical effects and energy that made the original beloved.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice starts slowly with too many competing storylines that leave characters underdeveloped and audiences disengaged. The film significantly improves in its final third when Burton focuses on practical effects and allows Keaton to fully inhabit the title character again. While never reaching the quotable heights of the original, it delivers enough nostalgic charm and visual spectacle to satisfy most fans, even if it feels like a competent but unnecessary legacy sequel.
