Critics Sentiment
Blue Beetle battles Carapax with his OMAC prototype
Alberto Reyes dies from heart attack during the attack
The film drops significantly during Alberto's death sequence, which several critics found emotionally manipulative, before recovering as the family unites for the rescue mission.
Blue Beetle follows a predictable superhero origin formula that reviewers found overly familiar, but succeeds through its heartfelt Latino family dynamics and strong cultural representation. While critics consistently praised the action sequences, George Lopez's performance, and the emphasis on family bonds, they criticized the forgettable villain, forced romantic subplot, and lack of narrative creativity. The film works best when focusing on the Reyes family working together, but struggles with typical genre conventions and uneven emotional beats.
