Flags of Our Fathers
There were five Marines and one Navy Corpsman photographed raising the U.S. flag on Mt. Suribachi by Joe Rosenthal on February 23, 1945. This is the story of three of the six surviving servicemen - John 'Doc' Bradley, Pvt. Rene Gagnon and Pvt. Ira Hayes - who fought in the battle to take Iwo Jima from the Japanese.

Doc finds Ralph Ignatowski's mutilated body days later in cave
From the iconic flag-raising photograph (8.7) to the discovery of Iggy's tortured body (5.8), representing the film's central tension between public heroism and private horror.
Critics praised Eastwood's ambitious and realistic portrayal of the Battle of Iwo Jima, particularly the visceral combat scenes and sophisticated examination of heroism versus propaganda. While reviewers appreciated the strong performances and the film's unflinching look at war's aftermath, some found the nonlinear structure confusing and the pacing uneven, particularly in the final act dealing with post-war trauma.
