Analyze That
The mafia's Paul Vitti is back in prison and will need some serious counseling when he gets out. Naturally, he returns to his analyst Dr. Ben Sobel for help and finds that Sobel needs some serious help himself as he has inherited the family practice, as well as an excess stock of stress.
Critics Sentiment
Paul sings West Side Story showtunes to get Ben's attention
Paul gets fired from multiple jobs due to paranoia
The film drops significantly from the praised West Side Story singing sequence to the widely criticized job-hunting montage, falling 2.0 points as the premise became increasingly ridiculous.
Analyze That starts promisingly with De Niro's musical moments earning genuine praise, but quickly loses steam during the middle act's job-hunting sequences that critics found stupid and unfunny. While the film recovers somewhat with action sequences and maintains the chemistry between Crystal and De Niro, most reviewers felt it was a pale, tired sequel that lacked the freshness of the original.
