Gangster Squad
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and — if he has his way — every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop… except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara and Jerry Wooters who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart.

Cohen and O'Mara engage in brutal bare-knuckle brawl while crowd gathers
Cohen lures Squad into unsuccessful ambush while Keeler is killed
The film dips to its lowest point during the Chinatown ambush and Keeler's death, then steadily builds to the crowd-pleasing climactic shootout and final brawl.
Gangster Squad maintains solid entertainment value throughout despite widespread criticism of its clichéd formula and cartoon-like approach. While reviewers consistently noted its derivative nature and lack of originality, most acknowledged its stylish execution and strong cast performances. The sentiment arc shows steady engagement with a notable dip during predictable plot developments, before rising to its peak during the spectacular final confrontations.
