Village of the Damned
An American village is visited by some unknown life form which leaves the women of the village pregnant. Nine months later, the babies are born, and they all look normal, but it doesn't take the "parents" long to realize that the kids are not human or humane.
Critics Sentiment
The children display their psychic abilities and eerily mature behavior
Townspeople gather to attack the children but fail catastrophically
The film drops sharply from the effectively creepy introduction of the children's powers to criticism of excessive violence replacing psychological horror
Reviews show mixed reception of Carpenter's remake, with critics praising the children's performances and Christopher Reeve's final role while criticizing the shift from subtle psychological horror to graphic violence. The film starts promisingly with effective atmosphere but loses momentum in the middle act due to heavy-handed execution. Despite flaws, most reviewers found it a watchable if inferior remake that delivers some genuine chills.
