The Good Shepherd
Edward Wilson, the only witness to his father's suicide and member of the Skull and Bones Society while a student at Yale, is a morally upright young man who values honor and discretion, qualities that help him to be recruited for a career in the newly founded OSS. His dedication to his work does not come without a price though, leading him to sacrifice his ideals and eventually his family.
Critics Sentiment
Edward deciphers audio tapes revealing his son as the Bay of Pigs leak
Second Soviet defector claims first Mironov is double-agent Yuri Modin
The film dramatically rebounds in its final act from the tedious middle section to the devastating revelation about Edward's son.
The Good Shepherd starts strong with compelling Yale and early spy sequences, but suffers severely in its lengthy middle section where complex plotting and emotional coldness test viewers' patience. The film redeems itself with a powerful finale that critics found devastating and emotionally satisfying, justifying the methodical buildup despite the pacing issues.
