The Warriors
Prominent gang leader Cyrus calls a meeting of New York's gangs to set aside their turf wars and take over the city. At the meeting, a rival leader kills Cyrus, but a Coney Island gang called the Warriors is wrongly blamed for Cyrus' death. Before you know it, the cops and every gangbanger in town is hot on the Warriors' trail.
Critics Sentiment
Cyrus delivers his charismatic unity speech to assembled gangs
Fox is killed by train during police chase
The film drops significantly from the Baseball Furies fight (8.5) to Fox's death on the train tracks (6.2), reflecting critics finding some middle portions dragged compared to the memorable action sequences.
Critics consistently praised The Warriors as a stylized visual feast rather than realistic gang drama, with many highlighting Walter Hill's distinctive comic book aesthetic and Andrew Laszlo's striking cinematography. The film peaks early with Cyrus's charismatic speech and maintains strong momentum through iconic encounters like the Baseball Furies, though some middle sections were seen as less compelling. Most reviewers appreciated the film's perfect ending and overall approach to violence that emphasized style and choreography over brutality.
