Election
Tracy Flick is running unopposed for this year’s high school student election. But Jim McAllister has a different plan. Partly to establish a more democratic election, and partly to satisfy some deep personal anger toward Tracy, Jim talks football player Paul Metzler to run for president as well.
Review Sentiment
Tammy denounces student government at school assembly
Jim tries to have affair with Linda Novotny
The film peaks with Tammy's brilliant assembly speech satirizing student government, then drops significantly during Jim's clumsy attempts at adultery that reviewers found overdone.
Election maintains strong satirical momentum through most of its runtime, with reviewers consistently praising Witherspoon's performance and the political commentary. The film peaks during the assembly speech scene but dips when focusing on Jim's sexual subplot, which critics found less subtle than the main election satire. Despite some uneven moments, the overall arc from setup through corruption to consequences received positive critical reception.
