Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
Dr. Henry Jekyll believes that there are two distinct sides to men: one that is good and one that is evil. He believes that by separating the two, man can become liberated. He succeeds in his experiments with chemicals to accomplish this and transforms into Hyde to commit horrendous crimes. When he discontinues use of the drug, it is already too late.

Jekyll transforms into Edward Hyde for the first time
Sir Danvers forces Jekyll and Muriel to wait eight months
The film jumps dramatically from the weak forced separation plot device to Jekyll's compelling experiments with evil, gaining over a full point.
Critics consistently praised this as the definitive Jekyll and Hyde adaptation, with Fredric March's Oscar-winning dual performance and innovative technical work earning widespread acclaim. The film builds from solid character establishment through groundbreaking transformation sequences to a powerfully violent and tragic conclusion. While some found the romantic elements dated and theatrical, the pre-Code sexuality and psychological depth impressed reviewers as mature and sophisticated filmmaking.
