The film jumps from a weak opening to much stronger middle sections when Diedrich Bader's physical comedy and the cast chemistry begin to work.
The Beverly Hillbillies starts weakly with overly broad humor but finds its footing in the middle sections where the cast, particularly Jim Varney, Diedrich Bader, and Lily Tomlin, deliver entertaining performances. The film suffers from a predictable con artist plot that mirrors other TV-to-movie adaptations, but provides enough nostalgic charm and comedic moments to be a passable time killer despite falling short of the original series' appeal.
