Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
As the global economy teeters on the brink of disaster, a young Wall Street trader partners with disgraced former Wall Street corporate raider Gordon Gekko on a two tiered mission: To alert the financial community to the coming doom, and to find out who was responsible for the death of the young trader's mentor.
Critics Sentiment
Gekko betrays Jake and Winnie by fleeing with the money
Gekko returns the money and reconciles with his family
The film's biggest drop occurs when Gekko's compelling betrayal gives way to an implausible redemption arc that critics found completely out of character.
The film opens with promise showing Gekko's release from prison and builds moderate tension through Jake's revenge plot, reaching its peak when Gekko executes his ultimate betrayal. However, the final act collapses dramatically as Stone opts for an unconvincing redemption ending that multiple critics found inconsistent with the characters and world he established. Throughout, reviewers consistently criticized the excessive focus on romance over Wall Street intrigue and the loss of the original's sharp edge.
