The Blue Lagoon
Two small children and a ship's cook survive a shipwreck and find safety on an idyllic tropical island. Soon, however, the cook dies and the young boy and girl are left on their own. Days become years and Emmeline and Richard make a home for themselves surrounded by exotic creatures and nature's beauty. But will they ever see civilization again?
Critics Sentiment
The family eats poisonous berries and Arthur finds them alive
Richard masturbates and sexual tension grows between the cousins
The film recovers from its lowest point during the awkward sexual development scenes to peak with the emotionally resonant ending sequence.
The Blue Lagoon starts promisingly with its shipwreck premise but suffers through a problematic middle section where critics found the sexual development poorly handled and logically inconsistent. The film recovers somewhat in its final act, with many reviewers acknowledging the visual beauty and emotional resonance of the ending, even if they criticized the overall execution.
