Year One

Year One follows a frustratingly uneven trajectory that starts poorly with crude early gags, struggles through a disjointed middle act, but finds its footing in the Sodom sequences where the impressive sets and supporting cast finally deliver some consistent laughs. While the climactic riot and sacrifice sequence represents the film's peak, the overall experience remains mediocre due to lazy writing and over-reliance on scatological humor. Most reviewers acknowledged the talented cast and Mel Brooks influences but felt the material never lived up to its potential or Harold Ramis's previous work.
