Spanglish
Mexican immigrant and single mother Flor Moreno finds housekeeping work with Deborah and John Clasky, a well-off couple with two children of their own. When Flor admits she can't handle the schedule because of her daughter, Cristina, Deborah decides they should move into the Clasky home. Cultures clash and tensions run high as Flor and the Claskys struggle to share space while raising their children on their own, and very different, terms.
Critics Sentiment
John cooks for Flor at restaurant admitting feelings
Deborah starts affair with real estate agent
The film drops significantly when Deborah's affair subplot begins, then rises sharply during the intimate restaurant scene between John and Flor.
Spanglish generally maintains steady positive sentiment throughout its cultural clash narrative, with reviewers consistently praising the performances particularly Paz Vega, Adam Sandler's dramatic turn, and Cloris Leachman. The film peaks during the intimate restaurant cooking scene but suffers from criticism of unnecessary subplots like Deborah's affair, though most critics appreciated Brooks' decision to avoid a conventional Hollywood ending.
