Eight Crazy Nights
Davey Stone, a 33-year old party animal, finds himself in trouble with the law after his wild ways go too far.
Critics Sentiment
Davey sings to townspeople about Whitey's selfless contributions
Enraged Davey insults Whitey and Eleanore and gets evicted
The film's biggest swing occurs between Davey's cruel regression when he insults the Duvalls (3.2) and his emotional breakthrough opening his parents' card (6.8), a 3.6 point jump representing his journey from rock bottom to genuine catharsis.
Eight Crazy Nights divides audiences with its crude humor and mean-spirited protagonist, starting poorly and staying consistently low through most of its runtime as Davey's unlikeable behavior alienates viewers. The film only finds its emotional footing in the final act when Davey's genuine redemption and Whitey's recognition provide the heartfelt holiday message that many reviewers felt the earlier crude humor undermined. While some appreciate the eventual Christmas Carol-style transformation, many found the journey too unpleasant and the character too irredeemable for the payoff to fully work.
