Olive, an average high school student, sees her below-the-radar existence turn around overnight once she decides to use the school's gossip grapevine to advance her social standing. Now her classmates are turning against her and the school board is becoming concerned, including her favorite teacher and the distracted guidance counselor. With the support of her hilariously idiosyncratic parents and a little help from a long-time crush, Olive attempts to take on her notorious new identity and crush the rumor mill once and for all.

The film swings from its lowest point during the harassment and failed Anson date (score 6.0, around minute 67) back upward as Todd reconnects with Olive and the warm romantic thread is restored (score 7.4, around minute 76).
Easy A opens with strong audience goodwill driven by Stone's charismatic narration and the clever premise, peaks in the middle act when Olive fully commits to the scarlet A persona in a stretch reviewers found both funny and surprisingly touching. The film dips in the third act as plot complications around the Griffith affair and church group harassment feel mechanical, before recovering with a crowd-pleasing finale that satisfies the 80s teen comedy homage the film has been building toward throughout.
