Jonathan Switcher, an unemployed artist, finds a job as an assistant window dresser for a department store. When Jonathan happens upon a beautiful mannequin he previously designed, she springs to life and introduces herself as Emmy, an Egyptian under an ancient spell. Despite interference from the store's devious manager, Jonathan and his mannequin fall in love while creating eye-catching window displays to keep the struggling store in business.

Biggest Swing

The film jumps from its weakest stretch during Jonathan's repetitive job failures to its magical peak when Emmy first comes to life.

Mannequin follows a classic romantic comedy arc that starts modestly, peaks during the central magical romance and creative collaboration sequences, then maintains strong sentiment through its fairy tale conclusion. Critics consistently praised the sweet chemistry between McCarthy and Cattrall while acknowledging the film's cheesy 80s sensibilities as part of its charm.
