Drop
Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry, is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone.
Critics Sentiment
Violet discovers masked gunman in her home via security cameras
Richard and Violet fight as Henry is shot and Cara stabbed
The film plummeted from effective thriller territory into absurd action movie cliches during the restaurant confrontation sequence.
Drop starts as a well-crafted, atmospheric thriller that effectively uses modern technology and confined spaces to build genuine suspense. The film peaks during its middle act with strong tension and mystery elements, but loses critical and audience goodwill in the final third as it abandons its tight premise for over-the-top action sequences that reviewers found nonsensical and cliched. Despite solid performances and stylish direction, the film's inability to maintain its initial promise through to the conclusion left many critics feeling disappointed with what could have been a standout thriller.
