Halloween (2018) starts strong with an effectively creepy setup and excellent character work for traumatized Laurie Strode, but stumbles during weak teenage subplot sections. The film recovers with brutal, methodical kills that strip Michael of supernatural elements, though a contrived twist and rushed ending prevent it from reaching the heights of the original.
