Cop Land
Freddy Heflin is the sheriff of a place everyone calls “Cop Land” — a small and seemingly peaceful town populated by the big city police officers he’s long admired. Yet something ugly is taking place behind the town’s peaceful facade. And when Freddy uncovers a massive, deadly conspiracy among these local residents, he is forced to take action and make a dangerous choice between protecting his idols and upholding the law.
Review Sentiment
Heflin kills Donlan and corrupt cops in climactic gunfight
Heflin ambushed and completely deafened by corrupt cops
The film jumps from its lowest point when Heflin is ambushed and deafened to its highest point during the explosive final shootout.
Cop Land starts strong with an intriguing premise and Stallone's against-type casting, but suffers through a slower middle section that some critics found overstuffed with characters and subplots. The film redeems itself with a powerful final act that showcases Stallone's dramatic abilities and delivers the satisfying action climax that critics consistently praised.
