Critics Sentiment
Kelvin awakens to find his deceased wife Hari in his quarters
Extended car journey through Japanese highways and tunnels
The film jumps from its lowest point during the criticized highway sequence to building atmospheric tension upon Kelvin's arrival at the space station.
Solaris begins with mixed reception due to its slow pacing and mundane opening, but builds tremendous emotional and philosophical power through its middle sections. The film peaks with Hari's appearance and maintains high critical regard through its exploration of memory, love, and identity, culminating in a widely praised ambiguous ending.
