Ghosts of Mars
In 2176, a Martian police unit is sent to pick up a highly dangerous criminal at a remote mining post. Upon arrival, the cops find the post deserted and something far more dangerous than any criminal — the original inhabitants of Mars, hellbent on getting their planet back.
Critics Sentiment
Ballard gets possessed until Butler's drugs force out spirit
Captain Braddock vanishes while patrolling with Ballard
The film drops to its lowest point during the slow middle section with Braddock's disappearance, then recovers when the action and creative possession elements finally kick in.
Critics found Ghosts of Mars to be a disappointing effort from John Carpenter, praising the atmospheric Mars setting and some creative concepts but criticizing the wooden acting, terrible dialogue, and dragging pace. The film improved somewhat during action sequences but never reached the quality expected from the horror master. Most reviewers felt it was a missed opportunity that squandered an interesting premise with poor execution.
