Critics Sentiment
Buster trapped running inside ferry boat paddle wheel
Buster misses shooting himself and gets kicked out window
The film peaks with the universally acclaimed paddle wheel sequence before dropping sharply to its weakest point with the unsatisfying suicide gag ending.
Day Dreams receives mixed praise as a fragmented but entertaining Keaton short that suffers from incomplete surviving footage and erratic pacing. While critics consistently highlight the paddle wheel sequence and police chase as among Keaton's best work, they note the episodic structure lacks the coherent narrative flow of his stronger efforts. The film succeeds through Keaton's physical prowess and inventive stunts but disappoints with its thin story and abrupt ending.
