Father Figures follows a predictable downward trajectory through its middle act as the road trip premise becomes repetitive and the humor increasingly forced. However, the film redeems itself with an unexpectedly touching finale that elevates the entire experience. While critics found much to criticize in the execution, most acknowledged the emotional payoff and chemistry between the leads.
