Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Hellboy, his pyrokinetic girlfriend, Liz, and aquatic empath, Abe Sapien, face their biggest battle when an underworld elven prince plans to reclaim Earth for his magical kindred. Tired of living in the shadow of humans, Prince Nuada tries to awaken an ancient force of killing machines, the all-powerful Golden Army, to clear the way for fantasy creatures to roam free. Only Hellboy can stop the dark prince and prevent humanity's annihilation.

Hellboy and Abe sing Can't Smile Without You while drinking
Nuada unleashes tooth fairies at the auction house
The film jumps from the drunken singing sequence peak at 9.2 to more standard action territory at 7.1, representing Del Toro's shift from character-driven comedy to plot mechanics.
The film starts strong with Del Toro's world-building and peaks during the beloved drunken singing scene that reviewers consistently highlighted as brilliant filmmaking. While the Golden Army sequences showcase stunning visuals that critics universally praised, some felt the overall plot was formulaic despite the exceptional creature design and character moments.
