Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
Orphaned heiress, English aristocrat and intrepid archaeologist, Lara Croft, embarks on a dangerous quest to retrieve the two halves of an ancient artifact which controls time before it falls into the wrong hands. As an extremely rare planetary alignment is about to occur for the first time in 5,000 years, the fearless tomb raider will have to team up with rival adventurers and sworn enemies to collect the pieces, while time is running out. But, in the end, who can harness the archaic talisman's unlimited power?
Critics Sentiment
Lara defeats the enormous six-armed guardian statue alone
Powell kills Alex West to force Lara to complete Triangle
The film peaks with the acclaimed guardian statue battle sequence before dropping significantly during Powell's manipulation and West's forced death
Tomb Raider maintains moderate audience approval throughout, with Angelina Jolie's casting and physical performance consistently praised even when the plot falters. The Cambodian temple sequence represents the film's creative peak, delivering the video game experience reviewers craved, while the convoluted time manipulation plot and unclear villain motivations drag down the middle act. Despite its flaws, most reviewers found it an entertaining and faithful adaptation that captured the spirit of the games.
