Graveyard Shift

John Hall is a drifter who wanders into a small town in Maine. He needs a job and decides to seek employment at the community's top business: a large textile mill. He is hired to work the "graveyard shift" -- from around midnight to dawn -- and, along with a few others, he is charged with cleaning out the basement. This task strikes the workers as simple enough, but then, as they proceed deeper underground, they encounter an unspeakable monstrosity intent on devouring them all.

Biggest Swing

The film peaks with Brad Dourif's mesmerizing Vietnam monologue then steadily declines as character deaths become senseless and the ending completely abandons atmospheric dread for generic creature feature nonsense.

Critics found Graveyard Shift to be a deeply flawed Stephen King adaptation that squanders its atmospheric mill setting and strong villain performance. While Brad Dourif's exterminator scenes and the oppressive industrial atmosphere earned praise, the film deteriorates into predictable kills and an abysmal finale. Most reviewers cited terrible acting, poor character development, and a nonsensical creature reveal that abandons the story's psychological horror potential.
