The film drops significantly from the effective birthday party suicide sequence to the plodding middle sections where critics felt the remake lost its foreboding atmosphere
Critics found this Omen remake competently made but creatively bankrupt, faithfully following the original scene-for-scene while lacking its psychological horror and tension. The death scenes and young Damien's performance received praise, but most reviewers felt it was a soulless retread that failed to justify its existence beyond the 6/6/06 release date gimmick.
