Rhinestone
After a big-time country singer brags that she can turn anybody in to a country-singin' star, she's out to prove she can live up to her talk when she recruits a cab-driver as a country singer. He's scheduled to sing at a big-time NYC country night club and she puts her ample powers to work in preparing her protege.
Critics Sentiment
Nick switches to rock version and wins over the crowd
Nick demonstrates his complete lack of musical ability to Jake
The dramatic swing from Nick's embarrassing vocal debut (2.9) to his amusing country costume reveal (6.2) represents the film's shift from cringe-inducing to occasionally entertaining.
Rhinestone follows a consistently poor reception with brief comedic highlights, particularly around Stallone's costume and some training sequences. Critics universally panned Stallone's singing and acting while acknowledging Dolly Parton's natural charm couldn't save the contrived premise. The film's rare successful moments came from visual comedy rather than its musical or romantic elements.
