Out of the Dark follows a typical slasher trajectory that starts promisingly with an effective creepy clown killer setup, sags considerably in the middle with gratuitous padding and predictable mystery elements, but recovers for a solid final act revelation and climax. While reviewers appreciated the character actor ensemble and some genuinely scary moments, the film was ultimately seen as competently made but forgettable genre fare.
