Critics found Confess, Fletch to be pleasantly entertaining with strong supporting performances, particularly from Roy Wood Jr. and Ayden Mayeri as the police detectives. However, the film suffers from pacing issues in its middle act and an overly convoluted plot that lacks the consistent comedic rhythm of the original. While Jon Hamm brings charm to the role, many felt he was underutilized by direction that never quite found the right balance between comedy and mystery.
