Eddie starts promisingly with Whoopi Goldberg's wise-cracking fan persona generating genuine laughs, particularly when she heckles from the bench. The middle section maintains decent momentum as Eddie connects with players in believable ways. However, the film derails significantly in the third act when the contrived takeover subplot and unbelievable climactic moments stretch credibility too far, even for a comedy-fantasy.
