The film swings from its gallery confrontation peak at 7.5, where Wilde's icy dismissal of Elliot and the art-world satire landed sharply, down to the abstract shared-nightmare wedding ending at 5.2, which left many reviewers cold and unconvinced.
I Want Your Sex opens with stylish promise and earns its strongest reception in the middle act, where Wilde's commanding performance and the escalating BDSM power dynamic generate genuine tension and dark comedy. The film plateaus and dips in its transitional passages, where Hoffman's understated performance divides audiences and the script loses momentum. The ending's surreal abstraction proved too opaque for many, leaving the overall arc as a film that delivers on provocative style and Wilde's star turn but falls short of the anarchic energy Araki's best work sustains throughout.
