Critics Sentiment
Fathers discover their daughters are topless on beach
Matthew and Jennifer continue their inappropriate secret affair
The film drops sharply from the comedic beach discovery to the deeply uncomfortable affair sequences that critics found exploitative.
Critics were divided on this controversial comedy, with many praising Michael Caine's performance and the beautiful Rio scenery while condemning the inappropriate central relationship as sleazy and exploitative. The film's attempt to mine comedy from a serious situation left most reviewers uncomfortable, though some found genuine laughs in the ironic situations. Overall sentiment remained consistently lukewarm to negative throughout most of the runtime.
