The Veil
30 years ago, when members of a religious cult known as Heaven's Veil take their own lives. The truth behind what really happened remains buried deep in the memory of the sole survivor, a five-year-old girl. Now as an adult she returns to the compound with a documentary crew. They soon discover something that is far more terrifying than anything they could have imagined.
Critics Sentiment
Thomas Jane's cult leader Jim Jacobs appears in tapes
Possessed Jim announces plan to feed on world's souls
The film peaks when Thomas Jane's charismatic cult leader is introduced in the found footage, then crashes to its lowest point with the predictable possession finale.
The Veil starts promisingly with an intriguing cult-based premise and atmospheric setup that reviewers appreciated. The film reaches its high point with Thomas Jane's universally praised performance as the charismatic cult leader, but steadily declines as it devolves into predictable possession horror tropes. Despite strong individual elements like Jane's acting and decent cinematography, the film ultimately disappoints with formulaic scares and a lackluster ending that squanders its potential.
