Mortal Kombat starts strong with a praised opening sequence featuring Scorpion's origin story, then struggles through a weak middle section focused on an unpopular protagonist and predictable plot beats. The film recovers somewhat with entertaining action sequences and Kano's comedic moments, but suffers from a rushed third act before ending on a high note with the satisfying Scorpion versus Sub-Zero climax that fans had been waiting for.
