This Is Where I Leave You
When their father passes away, four grown, world-weary siblings return to their childhood home and are requested -- with an admonition -- to stay there together for a week, along with their free-speaking mother and a collection of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. As the brothers and sisters re-examine their shared history and the status of each tattered relationship among those who know and love them best, they reconnect in hysterically funny and emotionally significant ways.
Critics Sentiment
Hilary shocks everyone by kissing Linda and revealing their relationship
Annie desperately tries to seduce Judd to help conceive a baby
The biggest sentiment shift occurs between Annie's awkward seduction attempt (6.2) and the satisfying hospital confrontation where Wade gets his comeuppance (7.4), a swing of 1.2 points.
The film starts strong with Bateman's performance anchoring the setup, then fluctuates through familiar family dysfunction territory that some critics found over-the-top. The sentiment peaks with Jane Fonda's surprising character reveal and the more genuine emotional moments, while struggling with underdeveloped romantic subplots. Despite its flaws, the cast chemistry and occasional moments of real insight kept most reviewers engaged enough to recommend it as entertaining comfort viewing.
